  1. ‚Ä¢ As in any cancer, psychological support is essential to a good outcome. An upbeat attitude is an important 
  2.   element. Support groups emphasizing psychological adjustment and channeling of mental strength into 
  3.   overcoming the tumor , often with visualization techniques, are increasing in popularity and perform a 
  4.   valuable function. See the list of support groups in the "Directory" at the back of the book. While no one 
  5.   can yet explain it, there is little doubt that people who believe they will do well in fact do better than those 
  6.   who give up hope when they learn they have cancer. Mental attitude alone cannot do everything, but 
  7.   without a positive outlook even an objective remission of disease cannot make a patient truly better.
